March 2011, Costa Rica.

Girl’s girl.

I asked Rebecca two things. What was your last dream, awake and asleep? Tell me about a lesson or what you have learned from a female role model in your life.

“I dream awake about… Long lazy summer days at the beach with my husband and my little baby girl, who is due late spring.
Last dream I had sleeping was…last night. Todd and I were on another amazing adventure together, traveling throughout Indonesia. Loved every minute of it. Ran into some friends. discovered secluded pristine beaches and ate delicious food. Absolute perfection.
A lesson I was just told from an amazing longtime editor and friend, about life and love:
Take time for yourself. Always.  Love yourself, your family and your work. Don’t get too caught up in the crazy BS from everyone else, especially at work. Life moves so fast and you forget to put your feet up and relax. Your babies grow so quickly- make sure to cherish every moment you have with them. The babies will soon grow up but the work will always be there for you to go back to. Make sure your priorities are figured out, and don’t stray from what’s important to you.
Its your quality of life that matters. Don’t let it disappear. If it does, get it right back.”

Rebecca Hessel Cohen was my editor at Cosmopolitan Magazine for three years. She is a force to be reckoned with: impeccable taste and very impressive party throwing skills make Rebecca one of the most fun women I know.

I was an intern at Cosmopolitan, running between the fashion closet and messenger center of the Hearst Tower when I saw Rebecca at her desk.

It could be silly to admit but I was initially attracted to Rebecca because I loved her hair. A rather irrational reason to want to work with or for someone, that’s what I thought at 22 as an intern. Eventually, I did work with Rebecca, and the things I learned from her are invaluable. Lessons about professionalism, the fashion industry and a few things about love and life. I owe her a great deal.

As a team for Cosmo, Rebecca and I traveled together, mainly to LA and back but occasionally also the world. In those days I was the trunk wrangler! Rebecca styled and I was her go-to-girl.  She styled A-list celebrity covers, fashion and beauty editorials for Cosmopolitan and has personally styled celebs such as; Cameron Diaz (who was my favorite), Russell Brand, Rihanna, Shakira, Mila Kunis and Megan Fox.

Rebecca left her position as Senior Fashion and Beauty Editor of Cosmopolitan last year and without taking much time off, she launched her brand and collection, LOVE SHACK FANCY and began styling and consulting on a freelance basis. She is expecting a new born baby girl this Spring. She still has the best hair.
